Visual fodder of the 21st century is not a series of stills, but rather an unrelenting, rapid surge of transmissions. The subject of Ben Ponds artwork is this constant stream of visual stimulation, provided by time-based experience, media, personal motion and routine. The works he creates are records of his capacity to perceive such inexhaustible stimulus, a practice of examining sensory information in a continuous state of change. Utilizing the immediacy of drawing, Pond seeks to discover and describe hidden aspects of shifting imagery, building layers of visual information as time and narrative unfold. Pond does not search for stillness, but rather understanding of the psychological impact of velocity, and the presence of tranquility amidst the mess.
